2017 IDF London Healthcare Conference
The inaugural IDF London Healthcare Conference took place on 4th July 2017 at the Royal Society of Medicine, with delegates including GPs, physicians and overseas health representatives.
The conference was designed to showcase the superb medicine that is available in London and the rest of the UK, and to help raise the profile of the IDF.
In a topical programme featuring several parallel sessions, more than 35 speakers briefed IDF members and non-members on the latest innovations and best practice in patient care across a wide range of medial specialties and disciplines.
IDF President Brian O’Connor opened the day and introduced the keynote speaker Dr Kevin Fong who gave a fascinating insight into what can be learned from space medicine.
Delegates were then able to attend one of several parallel sessions on their chosen topic – including diabetes, fertility, oncology, paediatrics and advances in surgery – with a specialty lead from the IDF chairing each session with short talks by leading clinicians from the field.
A lively pre-lunch debate looked at the topic of virtual versus real physicians, while afternoon parallel sessions again allowed delegates to hear the latest on their chosen specialist topic ranging from orthopaedics, dementia/neurology, cardiology, mental health, neuro rehab to spinal surgery.
The day was rounded off with a look at genetics and personalised medicine.
In addition to the education and professional development aspects, participants enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the speakers, other IDF members and network with new contacts from different specialties during the refreshment breaks and at the post-conference drinks reception.
The conference proved a welcome addition to the IDF’s educational programme, as well as helping to raise the profile of IDF to non-members, and the event attracted interest and support from a wide range of corporate sponsors.
